Wood is a naturally beautiful material, and many appreciate the look so much that they use it for siding. While wood is far from the most durable or cheapest material, you too might feel that it is an investment that is worth it. So what do you need to consider concerning wood siding?
Here are some potential downsides.
If you live in an area that is prone to wildfires, wood offers very little protection, but will instead work as fuel for the fire. While it is usually treated with a fire retardant, this will only help so much. If there are termites or other wood boring insects where you live, you need to make sure that there is ample clearance between the ground and the siding, and you should never keep firewood near the house since there could be insects living in the logs.
When painting wood you need to be very careful that there is no moisture in the wood, since this will cause the paint to bubble and crack.
